Abstract

The purpose of this in-depth discussion is to shed light on and discuss the ethical aspects of SoTL and educational development in higher education. A Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) involves a systematic exploration of and reflection upon one's own teaching practices, aiming to develop and improve methods for enhanced learning. In Sweden, currently, however, there are no guidelines addressing ethical dilemmas associated with methods for pedagogical development or SoTL, in spite of the fact that the practices may pose particular ethical challenges. Drawing on research ethics, care ethics, and the professional ethics of university teachers, some key dilemmas that university educators need to consider in the exploration of their own teaching practices are discussed.
