Abstract

This article is about students' critical self-reflection. The starting point is that the types of critical thinking that we traditionally foster in the university are insufficient regarding critical problems of our time, such as the climate issue. When it comes to complex and value laden questions where many perspectives can be valid, we have to deal with human mechanisms that in various ways prevent us from thinking and acting wisely, such as polarization, confirmation bias, tension between thought and action and various forms of legitimization strategies that helps us avoid taking responsibility. How can critical thinking, dealing with such conditions, be understood and developed in higher education?
